Admission Checklist
If you are interested in an Ursuline education for your child, please contact Lynn Wong in our Admission Office at (302) 658-7158, ext 209. We will send you an information packet with an application. Follow these steps to pursue admission to Ursuline:
1.______ Come visit us
Ursuline Academy offers you several opportunities to get acquainted with our campus, faculty, and students. Prospective parents and students are welcome to visit the school during one of our Open Houses. Parents may opt to take a group tour of the school on one of our scheduled Walk-Through Wednesdays. The admission office can also arrange an individual tour and/or classroom observation for you at your convenience.
Students applying for grades 2 - 12 are encouraged to spend a day attending classes at Ursuline, beginning in October. Students applying for the Lower School will be assigned to a host teacher for the day; students applying for the Middle or Upper School will “shadow” one of our students throughout the school day. We ask you to complete a student visitation request form one week in advance. On visit days, lunch is provided for each student and the dress code is “dressy casual” – no jeans or sneakers please.
2.______ Submit an application
Return a completed application along with the $75 processing fee to the admission office prior to the test date. This automatically registers your child for the admission testing. Download an Ursuline Application here.
3.______ Forward request for records and teacher recommendation forms
Upon receipt of your application, Ursuline Academy provides you with a teacher recommendation form and a “records request” form. Submit these requests to your child’s current teacher and school after the first marking period to ensure the Admission committee has the most recent academic information included with the transcript. The recommendation and records are to be sent directly from your child’s current school to Ursuline Academy. We recommend that you follow up with your child’s school to ensure the information has been sent.
4.______ Schedule admission testing
The screening process for preschool age children includes an observation and developmental readiness assessments by our preschool staff. Applicants for grades 1-8 will take grade-appropriate assessments in verbal, reading, and math skills. Applicants for grades 9-12 take the Educational Records Bureau (ERB) CTP 4 test, Verbal, Reading Comprehension and Mathematics Subtests. This test serves as both an admission and scholarship test, provided the applicant tests on the earliest date(s) the test is offered. There are no additional fees due on the day of testing. The admission application serves as registration for testing.
Admission Decisions
Admission to Ursuline Academy is based on individual and academic criteria that vary depending on the age of the student. The Admission Committee determines acceptance through an evaluation of the student’s readiness, the entrance test or screening, the student’s previous school record, and teacher recommendations. Provided the student’s admission file is complete, committee decisions will be made on a rolling basis as space in the requested grade is available.
